COMPOSER

About matthew

Matthew Patrick Donner is an American composer for film and digital media based in California. His composition style ranges from electronic to purely orchestral works. Matthew’s third feature film, the action/thriller Til Death Do Us Part (2023) directed by Emmy winner Timothy Woodward Jr., released in theaters this summer. In 2022, Matthew's second feature film, Looking For Her (romantic comedy; dir. Alexandra Swarens), began streaming on Tubi. His first feature, The Cabin (indie/horror; dir. Johan Bodell) is streaming on Amazon Prime.

While studying philosophy in college he joined the jazz band as a vocalist and began to follow his dreams of becoming a crooner. However, during his sophomore year concert season, Matthew suddenly lost his voice due to vocal nodules. After many desperate attempts to restore his voice he was left with an ill-equipped instrument for the professional music world. The following semester, he rejoined the jazz band as a guitarist and found a new comfort in having a less front-man role on stage. This new position was the catalyst in a long transition from performer to composer.

In 2021 Matthew placed as a finalist at the World Soundtrack Awards for the Sabam Award for Best Original Composition by a Young Composer (Belgium), where his music was debuted by the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra, and as a finalist at the Lei Cine Scoring Project in Beijing, where his music was recorded live in Budapest at the acclaimed Studio 22.
